At the Los Angeles Greek Film Festival, which took place in the Californian city from June 14 – 17, 2007, the Swiss documentary film “A Song For Argyris” by Stefan Haupt took home the audience award. More than 20 fiction and documentary films from or about Greece were shown in the presence of Hollywood celebrities of Greek descent, among them the Oscar-winning actress Olympia Dukakis. The event took place in the Fine Arts Theatre in Beverly Hills.
“A Song For Argyris” portrays the life story of Argyris Sfountouris, who lost the majority of his family during a massacre committed by the German occupying forces in Distomo in June of 1944, and who, as a young boy, found a new home in the Pestalozzi Children’s Village in Switzerland. The film, which moves viewers deeply, also received the grand audience award at the Thessaloniki Film Festival in March.
