The film «Der Freund» by Micha Lewinsky won the «First Works Award», which was presented at the 25th Festroia Film Festival in Setúbal (4 to 13 September 2009). Eleven films by young European directors were competing for the award. The jury for first works comprised the Russian actor Ivan Shvedoff, the German director Alexander Oppersdorff and the Czech director of the festival Petr Koliha.
«Der Freund» started ist successful cinema and festival career in January 2008 with the QUARTZ for the «Best Film» and the «Best Emerging Actor» at the 2008 Swiss Film Awards. It was screened at numerous international film festivals, such as in Shanghai, Munich, Chicago and Seoul, received awards in San Francisco and San Jose, and was entered by Switzerland for the 2009 Academy Awards.

A Swiss director already won an award at the Festroia Film Festival in Setubal, Portugal, back in 2004: Oliver Paulus beat off competition to take the «First Works Award» for «Wenn der Richtige kommt», a co-production with Stefan Hillebrand.
