In Spring of 2011, documentary filmmaker Dieter Gränicher sets out to discover the world of the deaf. For a month he lives in an institutional community for the deaf in Turbenthal in the foothills of Zurich. Accompanying the residents, some with multiple handicaps, he observes their daily life attentively and, as trust grows, with increasing affinity. In these portraits, the film reveals the subtlety and vitality of their sign language, showing how their expressive energy surmounts the limitations of their handicap and touches whomever they meet.
