In 1747 Jakob Schmidlin is publicly strangled and burned as a heretical teacher. Over a hundred women, men and children were condemned with him, most of them banished from the Swiss confederation for eternity. The movement was thus to be completely wiped out. What remained is not much more than a horror story. How could it have come to this?
