The history of mankind is inseparably tied up with clay. In most cultures, the creation is linked to this “first matter”. As for man’s cultural history, it has literally been built on the foundations of this material, despite a long eclipse during the period of industrialisation. Fascinating and so close to hand, clay – also known as mud and “wattle and daub” – is today enjoying a renaissance.
